While there is limited research on the support needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) young people, 13 even less is known about the lived experiences of LGBT people from refugee and newly arrived backgrounds in Australia. The paucity of research is matched by a lack of long-term support programs. In Victoria, the only program targeting this population of people is one run by the Multicultural Centre for Women’s Health (MCWH) that provides support for same sex attracted (SSA) immigrant and refugee women (that’s not specific to young people)14. Dedicated work in this field is the exception and the little work that has been done is, at best, time-limited, poorly funded and under resourced.
