Hemp in Australia is a versatile rotational crop with moderate water and minimal chemical inputs requirements. Hemp can be processed for a variety of purposes, such as (a) food, given its high protein and overall nutritional content, (b) fibre used for textiles, paper, and construction materials, (c) medicinal and cosmetic applications, (d) biomass and oil for biofuels and gasification, (d) agricultural bioremediation, and (e) carbon sequestration.
This study focuses on depicting the potential of the industry and on conducting a consultation with regional stakeholders to ascertain challenges, limitations and actions required to support its development in the Gippsland region.
