Project Number: Chironomid pupal exuviae as biological water Quality monitors - M/04/151; LWRRDC Project 88/76.
MDFRC item.
18 pages.
The aims of the present study were to: develop appropriate techniques to collect floating exuviae in suitable sampling densities; obtain, describe and produce identification guides to pupal exuviae of Chironomidae link-reared to adult material (upon which identity relies); assess the temporal heterogeneity in community structure elucidated by seasonal and diurnal sampling of drifting exuviae at a single site; assess spatial heterogeneity in community structure by sampling drifting exuviae in relation to point sources of pollution.
