This issue is a retrospective of the United States’ Asia policy during the Trump Administration’s first term. It brings together experts from La Trobe University and the wider academic community to discuss the implications of President Donald Trump’s 2016 U.S. election win for Asian states and societies. This is a pivotal time in Asia, and the Trump Presidency has provided some unexpected changes to the balance of power in the region. Every country and territory is affected by the actions of the United States, and the ability to anticipate, adapt and flourish in these challenging times are a key strategy of every government. What this collection ultimately reveals is a messy mix of contradictions, uncertainty, incoherence, and opportunism informing U.S.-Asia relations.
