These photographs taken by Ian Hill, document the exhibition 'One foot on the ground, one foot in the water', including Catherine Bell, Timothy Cook, French & Mottershead, Mabel Juli, Richard Lewer, Sara Morawetz, Michael Needham, Nell, Patrick Freddy Puruntatameri and Nawurapu Wununmurra, at La Trobe Art Institute, Bendigo, from 10 November 2020 to 17 January 2021. The exhibition was curated by Travis Curtin.
The exhibition explored mortality as a state of transition and presented processes of art making as a means of facing death. Paintings, sculptures, installations and sound works by 11 contemporary artists invited audiences to reckon with death and dying as an inherent part of life. The artists invoked experiences of loss, impermanence, transience, remembrance, memorialisation and their own expressions of grief.
