This paper explores the impact of changes in general practice size and ownership on patient care in Australia. Since the late 1990s, general practices have increasingly merged into larger entities, with a decline in GP practice ownership, particularly due to financial pressures and management burdens. Concurrently, corporate ownership models have gained traction, raising concerns about prioritizing profits over patient care. This review synthesizes literature on how these trends affect healthcare delivery, focusing on accessibility, quality of care, and the sustainability of the healthcare system. The paper highlights both the potential benefits and challenges of these evolving practice structures.
