Drug Consumption Rooms (DCRs) operate internationally and reduce overdose, drug-related harms, and public amenity concerns while delivering health system benefits. Although legislation enabling a DCR trial was passed in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in 1999, no facility was established. Under the ACT Drug Strategy Action Plan 2018–2021, the Burnet Institute conducted a feasibility study using literature reviews, stakeholder interviews, and surveys of people who use drugs and needle and syringe program clients. Despite methodological limitations, findings indicate strong need, community support, and feasibility for a DCR in the ACT, with recommendations for an appropriate service model.
