This paper describes research work on the effects of river flows on occurrence of cyanobacterial blooms in the relatively slow-flowing pools behind the regulatory weirs on the Murray-Darling river system, and proposes a number of possible strategies to minimise such blooms.The article is substantially the Executive summary of CEM Technical Report No.119, from the CSIRO Centre for Environmental Mechanics.
