Harm from alcohol and other drugs have effects thatextend beyond the drinker to their social connections andproduce much wider familial and societal impacts. Theneeds of the relatives, friends, co-workers and communi-ties affected by the drinking of people in their social net-works are seldom voiced, counted or responded to.
