Title in English: Alcohol use and pregnancy: prevalence, risks, and rationale

Abstract in English: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can have negative consequences for the (un)born child. The advice for women who want to become pregnant, are pregnant or are breastfeeding is therefore not to drink alcohol – the ‘zero standard’. This article discusses how common alcohol consumption is around pregnancy, risks of alcohol consumption before, during and after pregnancy, and factors associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Finally, it is discussed how (birth care) professionals can apply this knowledge.
